Android Celebrates The People Creating Apps In New Global #IMakeApps Campaign

Android’s new #IMakeApps campaign celebrates the hard work, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of app and game makers around the world.

This social campaign by London based creative agency Gramafilm, shines the spotlight on the exceptional community of people who make up the Android developer ecosystem. #IMakeApps shares the stories, dreams and passions of the individuals behind the apps by showcasing what they do when they step away from their computers, and introducing them to a wide global audience.

The first set of unique stories features an American artist, a Dutch adventurer, a chair restorer from Denmark and a Spanish acrobat.

Film #1 – Faith Ringgold is an 88-year old artist and has been a pioneering figure in American art for six decades. In her 80s she came up with the idea for Quiltuduko, an art making game inspired by the Japanese number game, Sudoku.

Film #2 – Niek Bokkers started traveling with his dad and twin brother when he was six and hasn’t stopped since; a Dutch adventurer, Niek is co-founder and creative director of Polarsteps, a personal travel log which automat

Film #3 – Hans Jørgen Wiberg started losing his sight when he was 25 years old. Now a chair restorer, Hans is co-founder and inventor of Be My Eyes, an app that helps connect blind people to sighted volunteers to help with short, simple tasks.

Film #4 – Manel Alcaide started doing aerial acrobatics in 2008. He has since hosted integration workshops for deaf and hearing children, bringing them together through circus techniques. His passion for making the world more accessible for deaf people led him to start Visualfy, an app that translates sounds into visual and sensory alerts.

App makers worldwide are invited to share their own stories by using the hashtag #IMakeApps and nominate themselves to feature in future #IMakeApps films.

Algor Lieman, Director and Co-Founder, Gramafilm commented: “The idea we presented to Google was to deliver a campaign that reaches out to everyone who is part of the Android community, both app makers and app users. #IMakeApps leaves aside the tech and centres on telling the real human stories that bind us all together.”

Patricia Correa, Google’s Director of Developer Marketing, Platforms & Ecosystems: ”We are humbled by the accomplishments of our app makers and how they inspire and innovate on our platforms. With this campaign, we would like to celebrate them not just for their work but mainly for who they are.”

The #IMakeApps campaign broke on 18th June and will run on YouTube, across Google and Android channels, as well as social platforms until the end of the year.
