When Activision Publishing, announced Tony Hawk’s™ Pro Skater™ 1+2, gamers around the world celebrated. In Brazil, however, there was an even bigger commotion. Fans of skateboarding, music, and video games wanted more. They wanted the music of Charlie Brown Jr. – one of the most popular Brazilian bands among skaters – to be included in the game’s soundtrack. In the end, the song “Confisco” was added to the game!
Now, Brazilians can both play a remastered version of the nostalgic game while listening to “Confisco” and watch previously unreleased footage of band in a never-before-seen music video, released to celebrate the game’s launch in Brazil on September 4th and the inclusion of the band’s song in the game’s soundtrack.
To create the video, the vocalist’s son, Alexandre Abrão, granted Activision and CP+B Brazil access to more than 170 hours of images, interviews, and shows. The content of 102 mini DVDs was combed over and mixed with gameplay footage, creating a unique meeting of two legends: Tony Hawk and Chorão.
The video starts with a skateboard roaming around a completely empty city of São Paulo while the phrase “You asked for it you got it” (found in an impactful interview found in the hours of films the team watched) complements the scene. The mix creates a strong connection with the enormous commotion Brazilians created on social media to ensure the band’s vocalist was present in the new version of the game.
“For more than 20 years, I have played Tony Hawk on a tube TV,” remembered Marcos Medeiros, partner and CCO of CP+B Brazil. “It’s indescribable to have the privilege to, alongside Activision, help generate relevance and bring results to local clients by means of a video clip created to honor both Chorão and fans of skateboarding, games, and music.”
The game also includes more connections with the Brazilian audience. Players can choose to play as Bob Burnquist, the greatest medalist in the history of the X-Games, or Letícia Bufoni, one of the most successful skaters in the world today.
In the year that lead singer Chorão would have turned 50, all the love he had for skating and for music will be eternalized in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2.
Creative direction was carried out by CP+B Brazil. Production was handled by SugarCane and the skater/directors Igor Selingarde and Rodrigo Locatelli. Sound design was done by Audioman.
