Video Game Prank Ad Lets a Smartphone App ‘Hack’ People’s World

To promote its upcoming game Watch Dogs, video game developer Ubisoft decided to play a little prank on some unsuspecting customers.

In its ‘Amazing Street Hack’ prank, several customers were given a mysterious smartphone app that allowed them to ‘hack’ their environment.

They could switch street lights on and off, open car doors, and dispense cash from an ATM with a simple press of a button.

However, things take a turn for the worse when they inevitably cause a road accident—prompting the police to take action.

Obviously no one was arrested, but it was a pretty neat way to advertise for a video game.

Watch Dogs will be released on 27 May.
