Creative UK appoints Lara Carmona as Director of Policy and Engagement

Creative UK has today announced the appointment of Lara Carmona as Director of Policy and Engagement. Working directly with policymakers, politicians and the most influential creative individuals and organisations, Lara will play a critical role in supporting, championing and representing the UK’s world-leading creative industries.

Prior to joining Creative UK, Lara has dedicated her career to tackling some of the UK’s most pressing policy and campaign challenges, working for organisations such as Marie Curie, Rethink, and most recently the Royal College of Nursing as Associate Director of Policy and Public Affairs. Over decades, Lara has built diverse movements for change to drive major investment into policy solutions, develop national strategies and change laws, securing commitments and action from governments, as well as private and not for profit sectors. She is currently completing a Masters in Global Political Economy, focusing on labour markets and lives in south London with her artist husband.

Caroline Norbury OBEChief ExecutiveCreative UK, said: “We are thrilled to have appointed Lara, with her passion, commitment and track record for driving change. Her deep understanding and experience of tackling major societal issues, as well as the fresh perspectives she brings with her, will be enormous assets in advocating for the transformative role creativity can play in all walks of life. I am particularly excited by Lara’s bold and positive approach to using data and collaboration in bringing people together to identify opportunities and create system change.”

Lara Carmona said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Creative UK as Director of Policy and Engagement. It is a huge privilege to be invited to work with individuals and organisations across the UK to drive the creative industries forward.

“I believe that creative expression acts as a powerful catalyst for change and transformation – whether that is generating prosperity within society, driving the economy, tackling inequalities or supporting people to understand the centrality of creativity in life. There is, for all of us, an incredible opportunity for our ideas and innovation to drive inclusive growth in the UK, and leading internationally too. Seizing this chance, and collaborating to make significant change for the better, is at the heart of what I’m here to do. I can’t think of a better place to be than Creative UK to deliver this important agenda.”

Lara Carmona joins Creative UK as Director of Policy and Engagement from early March 2023.
