Rematch, the sporting time machine that reimagines iconic sporting moments through unique immersive theatrical events, has appointed sports PR and sponsorship agency MatchFit as its retained agency for sport-focused consumer and B2B PR.
Returning in 2023 with an epic re-telling of the iconic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ contest between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, Rematch is a world first in sports entertainment, providing immersive live experiences that draw on the cultural power of sporting nostalgia.
‘Rumble in the Jungle’ will be the first post-pandemic production, transporting audiences back to the sights, sounds and sensations of 1974. The run will be a nostalgic, multi-sensory experience incorporating immersive theatre, audio-visual media, archive footage, as well as music, food and drink relevant to the era itself.
The production follows on from the brand’s award-winning ‘Wimbledon Rematch 1980’ event, which took place in 2019 in partnership with the AELTC. The event transported the live audience back to the 1980s, celebrating a Wimbledon Championships which featured Yvonne Goolagong as the first mother to win the women’s competition, and an epic clash between Björn Borg and John McEnroe. The production was recognised by the Campaign Experience Awards 2020, serving up Gold for Creative Event of the Year.
Richard Ayers, Founder of Rematch said;
“We are pleased to be working with MatchFit at such an exciting stage of our journey. MatchFit’s earned media expertise, and deep understanding of sporting culture, means this is brilliant fit for our business. We are excited to see how PR can play a role as we seek to transport audiences across the world back in time to celebrate the greatest moments in sporting history.”
Donald Parish, Co-Founder of MatchFit, said;
“Rematch is one of the most exciting new brands to enter the sports entertainment industry in recent times. This is a completely unique proposition, and we were huge fans of the Wimbledon Rematch 1980 event which was a total proof-of-concept. We are delighted that MatchFit will be playing our part in helping global sports fans to both discover, and rediscover, the most incredible sporting cultural moments of all time through Rematch.”
The news comes at an exciting time of growth for sports PR and sponsorship specialists MatchFit, who further expands its client roster alongside stellar partners such as The FA, LiveScore, The EFL, FOOTY.com and one of the world’s leading football clubs.
Recently, MatchFit won ‘Breakthrough Agency of the Year’ at the prestigious UK Sponsorship Awards 2022. It also won Agency of the Year – ‘Silver’ at The Football Business Awards, and was shortlisted as ‘Young Agency of the Year’ at this year’s Sport Industry Awards.
