MarComm’ Star Parade: Meet Megan Duong

MarComm’s Star Parade is a series where we shine the spotlight on some of the global stars from the Marketing and Communications industry, and Megan Duong, co-founder and CEO of Plot is precisely that.

Megan Duong – Co-Founder & CEO , Plot

Q) Give us a brief insight into your career so far?

I built my career in social. I worked at Gap and Apple, then started my own agency. Running the agency showed me how much time teams spent guessing what works in social video. That’s what inspired me to build Plot, which I co-founded with Ethan in 2023. Today we work with brands like Visa, PepsiCo and Fenty Beauty. I didn’t come in with a traditional founder playbook, and that turned out to be an advantage. I had to figure things out by feel, built around how customers think and behave.

Q) What according to you is the strongest tool in your skill set?

Storytelling. Making sense of complex ideas and distilling them into something clear and impactful. It shows up in everything I do: selling, building product, marketing, hiring.

Q) What is your favourite piece of work that you have created? Or a favourite project that you were a part of?

Plot. Building my own company has brought so much meaning and passion into my work. It’s the thing I’m proudest of.

Q) What is your favourite piece of work you wish you had done?

Ramp’s “Brian’s First Day as CFO.” Most B2B marketing is boring, so I always notice when someone breaks the mold. Ramp put Brian Baumgartner, Kevin from The Office, in a glass box in Flatiron Plaza for a full workday, hand processing receipts while a live counter showed Ramp doing it automatically. It took the most boring pain point in finance and made it a live show. It was funny, physical, and the product was the punchline.

Q) Who (if anyone) has been the greatest influence in your career?

My dad. He came to the US as a refugee from Vietnam and built a business from nothing. Zero privilege, limited English, but he knew hard work could get him somewhere. He had it so much harder than I ever will, and he sacrificed a lot. He always told me: do a job you love, or you’ll feel like you spend most of your day in jail. He was right. Have you ever been in a job you couldn’t wait to leave? With Plot, I work long hours not because I have to, but because I love what i do.

Q) What would you change about the industry, if you could?

Less time stuck in spreadsheets and guesswork, more time on creativity and craft. I’d keep building the right tools so people can focus on the work that actually matters.

Q) Tell us something that people wouldn’t necessarily know about you?

I randomly trained jiu-jitsu two hours a day for a year and competed, just to see what I was capable of. It ended up teaching me a lot about myself, including how I move, how I handle pressure and how I show up when things get uncomfortable.

Q) Where would you ideally like to be in your career in the next five-years?

Still at Plot, still growing. Building it into the platform every brand relies on to understand social video.
