Season 5 trailer drops for Netflix France’s Top 10 show

Aspiring rappers gather before French hip hop legends in this industrial, slightly surreal, trailer for season 5 of Netflix’s hit rap competition Nouvelle École (streaming as Rhythm & Flow France in the UK and US).

The Season 5 trailer launched online on Friday, 24 July. It was produced by Dissidence and directed by LateMilk, with VFX from Nicholas Cravedi.

The 1m 45s film plunges viewers into the action, using striking visual effects to communicate the raw intensity of the competition ahead. New season judges Theodora, and Oli are introduced through a journey and dramatic transformation of the rappers’ most important weapon – a microphone. It culminates with veteran judge SDM, standing on top of an 18-wheeler truck containing this season’s contestants, delivering them to the ultimate stage.

CGI is combined with real stunts performed by the judges; Theodora hangs out of a speeding Lamborghini to grab a mic before the car smashes through a wall and SDM rides the roof of the truck.

Nouvelle École is one of Netflix’s top 10 shows in France, each season introducing a new generation of French-speaking rap talent to mainstream audiences.
