Early this year, Volkswagen revealed their ultra-limited edition hybrid XL1 car and promised to showcase the final model at the Geneva Motor Show. In collaboration with Metaio, Volkswagen developed the iPad app MARTA that employs the tablet’s built-in camera to provide step-by-step details on how to dismantle, repair, replace, and put back together all the intricate components of the motorized beauty. The augmented reality of maintenance instructions might just be a way automatics is headed in the future.

Audi has also released a similar application to introduce new A3 owners around the car’s interior features, as well as under the hood mechanical directions for automobile mechanics.
