MOVEMBER TEAMS UP WITH COOPAH TO CREATE EMOTIONAL ‘CALL FROM A STRANGER’ CAMPAIGN FILM

To commemorate 21 years of Movember, the men’s health charity has teamed up with run coaching app Coopah to create a powerful film shining a light on the issue of men’s mental health.

In the short film ten people whose lives have been affected by suicide, cancer or mental health were told to go for a run and expect a call from a stranger.

Movember’s Hollie Llewelyn‑Davies explains: ‘As part of this year’s Move for Movember campaign, Coopah wanted to create a film featuring real-life supporters whose lives have been affected by issues relating to men’s health.  Some have lost loved ones to suicide, others are supporting family members going through cancer, or are tackling their own daily struggles with anxiety.

‘We all know how important moving is for your mental health, as well as opening up and talking about your experiences. So, we encouraged ten Movember supporters to go for a run and expect a phone call from a stranger. We had no idea what the reaction would be. We just created the opportunity for people to run and talk.’

‘I hope people watch the inspirational video created by the talented team at Coopah and see how this experience affected the runners.’

Directed by Nic Minns and Matthew Bowen from bright steam productions, the six-minute short film which launches on October 21, features fundraisers Katy and Imogen who both lost their dads to suicide and met for the first time during filming.

Katy, 27 says: ‘Every time I lace up my trainers, I think of my dad. We used to run together all the time, and even now, I still feel him with me on every run. It’s one of the ways I stay connected to him. Talking about men’s mental health is crucial—we need to empower men to seek help, because when they suffer, we all suffer. That’s why I support Movember and wanted to be part of this film.’
