Ideas Foundation Launches Search For “Next-Gen” Of Creative Manchester Talent

-Partners with Manchester College to nurture diverse entrants-

The Ideas Foundation is on the hunt for the next-generation of creative talent and has launched an ‘employability boot camp’ with Manchester College to unite industry and business to nurture aspiring creatives and to get them ‘business-ready’ – after research indicated that last year 92% of creative jobs in the UK were held by the most ‘advantaged’ in society.

ITV, MediaCom, Seventy7 and Chief are just some of the local businesses to collaborate and work with the Ideas Foundation to help break down boundaries and support them as they deliver industry and education engagement projects to nurture pre-entry employability skills in Greater Manchester to get entrants business ready.

Belinda Peach, Industry Engagement for the Ideas Foundation, said of the projects: “Talent creation and retention is key to the regional industries survival, we need to drive and develop this from all walks of life ensuring a diverse talent pool exists and grows to help continue and build the city’s creative sectors. We know the brightest ideas don’t come from one place or one type of person.  These types of programmes are proven to work across the UK and we are keen to do more in Manchester – one of the most important creative hubs in the UK. We’re asking employers to think bigger and open their doors to students who don’t normally get a look-in. Students who may never have thought about joining the industry yet are full of ideas.”

These two new industry employability projects will collaborate with over 58 mentors from local businesses to provide the 16-19 year old creative and media students with different work briefs.

The students then step in to pitch themselves back to panels of industry experts who choose one student to mentor and complete the original brief.  Each young person will spend time in the mentor’s business during the process.

The second programme focuses on coaching, which is a powerful tool in the modern workplace – developing individual and organisational performance by unlocking capability and nurturing motivation.

The Ideas Foundation is working with businesses in Greater Manchester to provide a programme of professional rather than personal development for the young people involved.
