Pavone And Penn State Health Ring Cancer’s Bell With Bold Storytelling Campaign

Integrated Campaign Spotlights World-Class Cancer Care Rooted In Community

Cancer care is one of the most crowded, complicated, and emotionally charged spaces in healthcare marketing. It’s also one that rarely leaves room for bold storytelling. When Penn State Health set out to change that, they turned to Pavone to lead a new integrated campaign that puts local excellence, breakthrough medicine and real communities front and center.

The Pavone work spotlights Penn State Health’s cancer specialties and delivers a clear, powerful message across central Pennsylvania: world-class cancer care doesn’t require leaving home, because it’s already here and has been all along.

“We have world-class cancer expertise right here in our communities, and the campaign is designed to showcase just that,” said Stacy Beers, Vice President of Marketing at Penn State Health. “The aim is to clearly demonstrate the depth of our specialties, highlight the strength of our research, and show the exceptional level of medicine happening every day—all in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to the people we serve.”

The ongoing campaign, which initially launched during the Olympics and two regional Super Bowl spots airing in core markets. However, the campaign goes beyond its big event launch to include a broader effort supported by a mix of television, digital, social, out-of-home, and internal communications.

Authentic Story-Telling:

Rather than relying on familiar hospital storytelling themes, Pavone built the work around authentic storytelling rooted in place, people, and progress. Shot at real locations throughout rural central Pennsylvania, the Super Bowl spots begin outside the hospital walls, to ground Penn State Health’s expertise in the communities it serves.

“We wanted to bring bold storytelling to this space and give Penn State Health a brand voice with thoughtful swagger,” said Chuck Meehan, Chief Creative Officer at Pavone. “This work isn’t what a typical hospital would do, and that was very intentional. Credit to Penn State Health’s leadership for leaning into a fresh, confident approach that reflects the exceptional talent behind their care and creates a real connection with consumers.”

“For us, this campaign isn’t about promotion, it’s about reassurance,” said Kyle Snyder, Chief Operating Officer at Penn State Health. “Patients deserve to know that leading-edge cancer care and experienced specialists are already here, rooted in their community. This work reflects the level of care we deliver every day and the responsibility we take seriously as clinicians.”

The campaign explores Penn State Health’s cancer disciplines, including lung, brain, and breast cancer, highlighting the physicians behind the care, the science driving innovation, and the technology pushing treatment forward. As an academic health system affiliated with Penn State, research also plays a central role, showcasing leadership in clinical trials and breakthrough medicine.

Together, the effort signals a new chapter for Penn State Health’s cancer brand, one defined by confidence, credibility, and a deep connection to community.
