Growing Indie announces the return of Creative Director duo in new leadership position
Zulu Alpha Kilo (Z.A.K.)—one of the world’s top independent agencies, with offices in Toronto, Vancouver, and New York—has announced the return of one of their top creative teams with Nick Doerr and Gui Bermejo rejoining the agency as Group CDs.
Seasoned creative directors, the pair have more than 15 years of experience producing high-impact campaigns for major brands. In their first stint at Z.A.K., they crafted the award-winning “Lily & the Snowman” for Cineplex, which garnered over 100 million views, and collaborated closely with founder and creative chairman Zak Mroueh on the viral “Say No To Spec” video. The duo have previously held senior creative roles at TBWA, BBDO, FCB and, most recently, Ogilvy Canada. Their work for brands like Destination Ontario, Visa, FedEx, and San Pellegrino has won them widespread acclaim, including multiple awards from the One Show, Cannes, Webby Awards, and Clios.
“It’s really special when a team like Nick and Gui returns,” says Zak Mroueh, Founder and Creative Chairman at Zulu Alpha Kilo. “Everyone wanted them to work on their briefs in their first stint here.”
“I know they’ll have even more creative impact this time around as leaders,” adds Jenny Glover, Chief Creative Officer at Zulu Alpha Kilo. “They’re a force and add more bench strength to an already powerhouse team we have in place.”
Doerr and Bermejo’s hiring comes during a strong period of growth and success for the Z.A.K. creative team. The shop recently promoted veteran creative directors George Ault and Jacob Gawrysiak to Group Creative Directors and creative team Carlos Veras and Dylan Thompson to Associate Creative Directors, and brought on new creative team Darby Clarke and Alexandra McGuirk-Penedo.
“We had an amazing creative run in our first go-around and we’re thrilled to be back,” the duo says. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to work on global brands alongside such a talented team and so many familiar faces.”
Doerr and Bermejo return is the latest marker of the creative company’s success, as Z.A.K. enters its eighteenth year with new client partnerships that include brands like Hershey Canada. The shop’s recent global work includes the #ChangeTheCompliment campaign for Dove, which earned System1’s highest possible Star Rating with a score of 5.9, and was named one of their top 10 ads that broke through in 2025.
