HARIBO – the UK’s number one sweet maker – has raised the game this Christmas by launching a multichannel PR and marketing campaign to help people across the UK and Ireland see the funny side of festive mishaps, reminding them that Christmas doesn’t need to be perfect. The ‘Hand Them HARIBO’ campaign puts the brand’s iconic sweets at the centre of festive celebrations, by diffusing Christmas mishaps when they inevitably happen.
Live for six weeks through November and December, the fun-filled campaign will feature across some of the UK’s biggest radio stations including Magic, Absolute Radio and Hits Radio. To drive campaign engagement, the stations are hosting cash prize competitions as they ask UK listeners to submit their funny Christmas mishaps.
In a first for the brand, HARIBO is offering fans the chance to get a free HARIBO Christmas Bingo Mishap box. In exchange for a box, fans will have to share a festive mishap. It is a playful game for the whole family that reminds us to see the funny side when things go wrong at Christmas. Just like an advent calendar, behind each of the 25 windows is a delicious mini bag of HARIBO sweets. When a mishap happens, simply match it to one of the windows on the box and, shout BINGO and claim a bag of HARIBO diffusing the mishap with some sweet relief. Each of the windows opens with a fun phrase reminding you to have fun when things go wrong. To be in with a chance to get a HARIBO Christmas Mishaps Bingo box, the sweet maker is asking people to head to their main website and share their own Christmas mishap as payment.
The campaign will also be amplified across earned, paid media and influencer partnerships to fuel excitement, talkability and drive audiences to HARIBO.com to discover more.
Phil Murphy, Marketing Director at HARIBO said: “Christmas is a busy time of year for brands. But with our new ‘Hand Them HARIBO’ campaign, we wanted to not only bring the fun but remind people not to lose sight of what Christmas is all about. Hand Them HARIBO puts the brand and its iconic treats at the heart of celebrations by encouraging the nation to be more child-like and see the lighter side of those moments when things don’t go to plan. So this Christmas, when mishaps happen, hand them HARIBO.”
