American Airlines and British Airways will reveal a unique two-day experience in the heart of Canary Wharf, where consumers can sample the on-board premium experience without leaving the ground.
From 19th – 20th September, the Altitude Academy will invite passers-by to enjoy a series of unique experiences and discover their personal flyer style. Guests will also be in with a chance of winning return business class tickets to some of American Airlines iconic US destinations.
To find their flyer style, guests will navigate through four one-of-a-kind zones that showcase both the different flying personas and the American Airlines and British Airways on-board experience across the Atlantic.

- The Dreamers – Comfort seekers who always arrive well-rested and ready for action. Guests can escape to a world of dream-like comfort and stop for a stunning photo opportunity in the clouds.
- The Escapist – Lovers of just kicking back and immersing themselves in endless entertainment. Guests enter a world of entertainment to discover the latest on board line up, and have the chance to win business class flights to Los Angeles.
- The Connoisseur – Driven by a desire to taste new flavours and experiences. Guests dine under the stars to get a flavour of the finest food and drink, and discover delicious dining options in the air and on the ground.
Sean Doyle, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said: “Customers can cross the Atlantic this week without even leaving The City as we bring a taste of transatlantic flying to travellers on the ground. Although we know our customers’ travel habits differ, within the Altitude Academy we’ve broken it down into four different flying styles that perfectly capture what our customers get when they fly with American Airlines or British Airways; a fantastic route network, comfort in the sky, the latest entertainment and restaurant-style dining on the ground and in the air.”
The two-day experience has been created to showcase the unique offering across American Airlines and British Airways, who together offer the best partnership across the Atlantic with up to 70 flights a day from London Heathrow to the United States.
Janelle Anderson, Vice President of Global Marketing at American Airlines said: “We are delighted to launch our fully immersive and interactive Altitude Academy in the heart of London’s Canary Wharf. American is investing more than $3billion dollars in the premium customer experience, and the Altitude Academy allows Londoners to sample the premium onboard product and service that American and British Airways offers, with no passport or boarding pass required!”
Food and drink throughout the experience will showcase the very best of both US and UK cuisine and will be provided by luxury hospitality group rhubarb, who cater for over 600 passengers a day at the American Airlines first and business-class lounges at Heathrow Airport.
The Altitude Academy is free to attend and will open in Jubilee Plaza, in front of Canary Wharf station, from 11am – 7pm on Wednesday 19th and 7am – 7pm on Thursday 20th September.
