Paddy Power have teased a brand-new social series ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Japan. The teaser trailer for ‘Japan Slam’ features WWE star Sheamus, who appears in the bookmakers’ latest web series, alongside a cast of other famous faces.
Former rugby union star Donncha O’Callaghan and Ruby Walsh join Sheamus in the star-studded line-up of Irish sportspeople, alongside Paddy Power himself.
The six-part YouTube series will see the cast take on various Japanese-themed challenges, including; sumo-wrestling, an eating competition and a samurai challenge. The series is the latest example of Paddy Power’s increasing content focus.
Last summer, they produced a five-part documentary about alternative football World Cup CONIFA, which was broadcast on national TV in Ireland.
Similarly, their ‘Head 2 Head’ interview series, with household names including Robbie Keane, Mick McCarthy and Graeme Souness, was picked up by TV – while their sponsorship of the Champions League of Darts has seen a dedicated content stream.
Plus, of course, their major activation for the new Premier League season, Save Our Shirt, which trended several times in one week, thanks to multiples pieces of content.
They also released Pitch Invader, a magazine looking ahead to the football season, which was distributed in stores and in the Daily Mirror – alongside regional Reach titles.
The first full episode will be available to view on Friday 20th September, to coincide with the opening game of this year’s tournament, Japan v Russia.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “We’re saying konnichiwa to Japan as we head over there for our latest piece of travel content ahead of the Rugby World Cup. I’m excited, but admittedly less enthused about taking on professional sportspeople at physical challenges like sumo or karting. Though I’m fairly confident in my abilities when it comes to the eating competition.”
Paddy Power marketing director Michelle Spillane said: “We are delighted to announce our latest content series – which sees Paddy and a team of celebrities head to Japan ahead of the Rugby World Cup. The series continues to highlight our focus on creating high quality content, which perfectly matches the fun, sharp-witted tone people expect of Paddy Power.”
