Sounds like a job for British Gas

British Gas highlight their breadth of home repair services in latest campaign

Today British Gas, one of the UK’s most established utility brands, launches a new integrated campaign to demonstrate the breadth of its home services. ‘Sounds like a job for British Gas’ highlights how British Gas are ‘Taking care of things’ this winter and reminds the nation that their expert engineering force are on hand when things go wrong in the home.

Created in partnership with creative agency of record VCCP and media agency OMD, the campaign aims to shift perceptions of British Gas from a traditional energy provider to a trusted home services expert for both customers and non-customers.

512,000 boiler repairs are needed every year in the UK and 64% of people default to a local tradesperson when something goes wrong in the home. With low awareness of the full breadth of British Gas home services, the campaign aims to spotlight British Gas’ unique position as an expert, trustworthy whole-home service provider – covering heating, plumbing and electrics. The campaign includes the launch of British Gas’ new, customer-first ‘No Fix, No Fee’ boiler proposition and same-day call-out service promise.

The ‘Sounds like a job for British Gas’ campaign is the next chapter under the ‘Taking care of things’ platform. It launches directly ahead of the Q4 seasonal ‘boiler switch-on’ moment and features the loveable, blue fluffy characters ‘The Things’. It taps into a universal human experience: when things go wrong in the home, it consumes your whole world and hijacks your life.

The fully integrated campaign runs across TV, OOH, radio, online video and social, using short-form AV and OOH to highlight British Gas’ broader whole-home services – reassuring customers that when electrics blow they will fix it first time, and when pipes leak they are there day or night. All executions will reinforce British Gas’s role in taking care of things and for being there for customers when they’re in need.

In a transformational shift to British Gas media placements, the campaign is launching a targeted intent-led approach designed to intercept householders when things go wrong in the home. When consumers search (traditionally or using AI) for issue-specific terms like “radiators cold”, “boiler error code”, or “flickering lights”, the brand serves up practical content fronted by expert British Gas engineers. By delivering clear, expert guidance at the moment of household disruption, the campaign empowers consumers to safely fix minor issues themselves while offering a seamless pathway to book a professional engineer when expert intervention is required. The brand also continues to invest in creators as an effective channel to help underline the service you can expect from British Gas engineers when taking care of things this winter.

The AV was directed by thirtytwo, straight off the back of their Oasis documentary. It was produced through Anonymous Content, in collaboration with VCCP‘s global content creation studio Girl&Bear, who also led the production of OOH and social assets. The commercial dramatises how the choreographed chaos of a Monday morning is disrupted by a broken boiler. Mr and Mrs Thing prepare packed-lunches and breakfast whilst the twins run riot around the house. Everything comes to a standstill when teenager, Ash, discovers her shower is stone cold and lets out an almighty scream. The startled reactions of Mum and the twins contrast with Dad seeing the broken boiler and calmly using the British Gas app to request a same-day call-out. The commercial finishes with the twins looking on excitedly as the British Gas engineer pulls up outside their home in the iconic van to fix it. The film highlights British Gas’ offer for same-day engineer callouts when booked before 11am, with a new no fee if the issue cannot be fixed. The campaign was ideated by VCCP creatives Haley Koehn and Louise Organ.

Samantha Taylor, Marketing Director at British Gas said: “Our engineers are our superpower, and this campaign is about showing the nation what they do brilliantly every day. In fact, we’ve already had one million customers rate their British Gas engineer 10 out of 10 this year. That’s an incredible achievement and something we should all be proud of.

“When we combine that expertise with propositions that genuinely matter to customers, we give people more reasons to choose us, more reasons to stay with us, and more reasons to tell others about us. That’s how we build a stronger brand and, ultimately, a stronger business.”

David Masterman, Executive Creative Director at VCCP in London added: “A broken boiler or a leaking pipe doesn’t just disrupt your morning – it brings your life to a standstill. One ice-cold shower and suddenly your whole world is turned upside down. This campaign captures that domestic chaos with love and warmth, showing how British Gas engineers step in with steady reassurance and a no-nonsense ‘No Fix, No Pay’ promise to put everything right.”

The campaign runs nationwide from 15th October across TV, OOH, print, radio, online video and social.
