TMW Unlimited has created a new digital campaign for the GSMA, the global body that represents mobile operators, to show how the power of mobile connectivity makes a difference in people’s lives around the world.
In 2015, the UN set out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an ambitious agenda to eradicate poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change – all by 2030.
In 2016, the mobile industry became the first sector to commit as a whole to the SDGs. Today, mobile operators around the world are undertaking a diverse array of groundbreaking and empowering initiatives.
In the United States, mobile-connected smart glasses enable a low-vision runner to complete the Boston Marathon. In Norway, a robot prevents sick children from feeling isolated. In Turkey, an app helps integrate Syrian refugees into society. In Tanzania, the lives of remote villagers are transformed through connectivity to the internet.
In Sri Lanka, a mobile-based tool is educating farmers to improve crop yields. In Peru, children deep in the Amazon rainforest are benefiting from mobile classrooms. And in Japan, operators are collaborating on disaster preparedness initiatives.
These represent just a handful of the connected life stories covered in the Case for Change campaign. To bring attention to this work, TMW Unlimited and the GSMA identified beneficiaries and invited them to share how connectivity is transforming their lives.
Local influencers around the world were sent a #CaseForChange – a case filled with the latest tech, including a 360° camera and a GoPro – to empower beneficiaries to tell their own stories, in their own words.
The first film launched on September 21, with new stories being released each week through the end of February.
Kate Stockdill, Business Director at TMW Unlimited said, “This is such a fantastic opportunity to show how the power of mobile technology and connectivity is transforming millions of lives around the world. We’re delighted to be involved and are excited to share some incredible stories of change over the coming months.”
Mark Evans, Senior Marketing Director, Advocacy, GSMA, said “Mobile is positively impacting the lives of more than 5 billion people around the world – that’s about two-thirds of the current population – and we wanted to find an innovative way to share these connected life stories. Over the next six months, the #CaseForChange will take a global journey, over 18 countries and 130,000 kilometres, to document how mobile is changing everyday life for these men, women and children – for the better. We’re excited to be sharing these amazing stories and showcasing how mobile is connecting everyone and everything to a better future.”
